RodentHero / Help with mice
Help with mice
A mouse in the kitchen is enough to start asking questions.
Finding a chewed food package or seeing something move along a wall is unsettling. You don’t have to know how many mice there are before asking for help. An independent provider can discuss your observations and whether an inspection is appropriate.
Have a few details ready
Tell the provider which rooms are affected, how long you’ve noticed activity, and whether the problem has happened before. If you rent, mention that too, so access and permission can be discussed before a visit.
Questions for your provider
- How will you assess where the activity is coming from?
- What treatment or monitoring options do you recommend, and why?
- What should I do before the appointment, especially around children and pets?
- How many visits are included, and how will progress be checked?
Ask about the gaps, too
Discuss whether the provider will look for possible entry points and whether sealing is included in the estimate. If it isn’t, ask whether they offer that work separately or whether another contractor is needed.
Understand the price before booking
Ask about inspection charges, treatment fees, follow-up visits, and cancellation terms. If the provider proposes recurring service, ask why, what it covers, and how renewal works. You are free to decide whether the proposed service is right for you.
After the visit
Ask for any preparation or follow-up instructions in writing. Keep a record of activity to discuss with the provider, and contact them if you have questions about their treatment or service agreement.
For general background on recognizing and preventing rodent activity, see the EPA’s rodent guidance. Your provider should assess your particular property.
Talk through what you’ve noticed.
Ask about availability, an inspection, and the next step for your home. You decide whether to book.
